A team of Sales Tax department conducted a raid at the city railway station on Saturday night. The main purpose of the raid was to seize goods without bills. However, the unsupportive attitude of the railway officers hampered their activities and they could not do so.

Sales tax officers from Jalandhar and Patiala division had been waiting for a long time to get permission from the higher railway officials, but despite several attempts nobody from the divisional level could be contacted.

It is not the first time that the sales tax department and the railway officials are at loggerheads, as earlier too, the railway officials have not cooperated with the sales tax department.

Sources revealed that it was around 10 pm that the sales tax officers conducted a raid at the Mall Godown of railway station and demanded papers of all the goods kept in the godown. However, the officers refused to oblige them.

Though, assistant excise and taxation commissioner Tejveer Singh Sidhu along with Kanwaljit Singh, joint director Jalandhar Division and Amrik Singh, joint director Patiala division, reached the spot nothing could be achieved.

Earlier, the sales tax department had tried to construct a permanent shelter, but they could not get permission from the railway authorities for the same.
