After the issue of tax evasion on goods booked by the railway parcel department put the railways authorities and the sales tax department at loggerheads, deputy commissioner Vikas Garg conducted a meeting with officers of both departments on Thursday evening to resolve the issue.
On September 13, a team of sales tax department had conducted a raid on city railway station. The teams main purpose was to seize the unbooked luggage that was without bills.
But the unsupportive behaviour of railway officers hampered their activity and the officials had to return without checking the papers of goods. They then complained about it to the deputy commissioner, urging him to look into the matter.
However, the DCs decision went in favour of railway authorities, said sources. Station superintendent RK Sharma said in the meeting, it was decided that both the departments would work according to the rules and officers of taxation department would not interfere in railways departments work.
We have provided special place to taxation department personnel outside the railway premises, so they should check the luggage there and not hamper our work.
