                    SEIZURE OF 80.00 KGS. OF PANGOLIN SCALES VALUED AT ` 40.00 LAKHS


Based on specific intelligence, on 14.06.2011 the officers of DRI, Kolkata Zonal Unit intercepted three packets containing 80.00 Kgs. of goods believed to be Pangolin Scales valued at ` 40.00 lakhs (approx.) from the Air Cargo, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata. The goods were booked by mis-declaring the same as FISH FOODS for Aizwal by the flight No.

 IC 713 with the intention to export them illegally via Indo-Myanmar Border.
Pangolin is a highly endangered species listed under Sl. No. 28 of Schedule I of Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 and export of the same and its body parts is prohibited under the EXIM policy of the Govt. of India. Therefore, the aforesaid goods were seized under section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962.
