SEIZURE OF NARCOTIC DRUGS (CANNABIS) WEIGHING 1749.42 KG. VALUED AT RS. 52.48 LAKH.

Acting on a specific intelligence, Siliguri DRI officers of Kolkata Zonal unit had effected a seizure of 80 packets of cannabis weighing 1749.42 kg. valued at Rs. 52.48 lakhs from a truck bearing registration no. WB-23A/ 7047 on 05.03.2011 at Goaltuli, Dist-Darjeeling under Phansidewa police station. The said cannabis recovered from the truck were kept concealed under 947 cases of mosquito repellants and hair care products valued at Rs. 36.43 lakh. The 1749.42 kg. of cannabis, 947 cases of concealing materials and the carrier truck were seized in terms of the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985. Total seizure value is Rs. 93.92. The driver of the carrier truck was arrested. Further investigation is in progress.
