SEIZURE OF 3.75 KGS. OF PRECIOUS STONES VALUED AT RS. 7,50,000/-

Acting on a specific intelligence, the officers of Guwahati DRI, Aizawl Intelligence Cell under Kolkata Zonal Unit intercepted a person named Mr. Kam Khan Mangpu on 01.02.2011 and recovered 3.75 kgs. of semi-precious stones (polished & cut) valued at Rs. 7,50,000/- from his possession. Mr. Kam Khan Mangpu has stated that he is a Myanmar national residing at Lawibual Tiddim, Myanmar. On further interrogation, he has admitted the smuggling of these stones from Myanmar for sale in Kolkata. The said stones were seized under section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962 on the reason to believe that the said goods were smuggled into India from Myanmar. The person (Myanmar national) involved in smuggling, was arrested. Further investigation is in progress.
