SEIZURE OF 1210.70 KG. OF CANNABIS HAVING TOTAL
SEIZURE VALUE OF RS. 75.73 LAKH

Acting on a specific intelligence, the DRI officers of Berhampore of Kolkata Zonal Unit had effected a seizure of 59 packets of Cannabis weighing 1210.70 kg. valued at Rs. 48.43 lakh from a truck bearing registration No. WB 76/4921 on 03.02.2011 on NH-34 near Farakka Railway station. The 59 packets of cannabis, recovered from the truck were kept concealed under 674 packets of cosmetic goods valued at Rs. 25.30 lakh. The 1210.70 kg of cannabis, 674 packets of cosmetic goods and the carrier truck were seized in terms of the provisions of NDPS Act, 1985. Total seizure value of the case is Rs. 75.73 lakh. The driver of the carrier vehicle who knowingly involved in carrying the cannabis was arrested. Further investigation is in progress.
