Excise revenue collection up 14.81%
December, 30th 2011

In what could come as good news to the Haryana government, the state's excise and taxation department collected revenue of Rs 11,677 crore till November this year. This is 14.81% more as compared to that of the tax collection for the corresponding period of the last financial year.

Gurgaon is one of the major contributors to the state kitty because of a high presence of corporate houses, big industries and the district being the hub of economic activities. Disclosing the jump in revenue collection, excise and taxation minister Kiran Choudhry said that the collection of value added tax (VAT) up to November this year was Rs 8,147.6 crore which was 19.49% higher as compared to that of the corresponding period of the previous year.

As far as VAT plus central sales tax ( CST) collection was concerned, Rs 9,356.47 crore had been collected by the department during this period. This collection is 14.10% more as compared to that of the same period last year. Choudhry said that an increase of 15.13% had been registered in collection of luxury tax during the same period.
