Chartered Accountants Entry to Civil Services regarding

A pass in the final examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is a recognized basic qualification like a degree of a recognized university for admission to the civil service examination, i.e., IAS and IPS.

Sir,

 

            I am directed to refer to your letter dated 10th June, 1992 addressed to Secretary,  Union Public Service Commission on the subject mentioned above and to say that as per existing rules for the Civil Services Examination, the prescribed basic  education qualification for admission to this Examination is degree of recognized University or an equivalent qualification.  Candidates possessing professional and technical qualifications which have been recognized by the Government as equivalent to a nation.  As per orders issued by the Government of India, a pass in the Final Examination for Membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has been recognized for recruitment to superior services/Posts under the Government.  Accordingly, the candidates possessing this qualification are eligible for admission to the Civil Services Examination, which is conducted by the Commission for recruitment to IAS, IPS and other Group A/Group B Central Services/Posts.

 

2.         The scheme for the Civil Services Examination comprises of two successive stages i)  Civil Services  (Preliminary)  Examination and ii) Civil Services (Main) Examination.  IN the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, a candidate is required to choose one optional subject  from among the 22 listed optional subjects which includes Commerce as one of the subjects.  In so far as the Civil Services (Main) Examination is concerned, list of 47 optional subjects among which Commerce and Accountancy is one of the optional subjects.

 

A copy of the Commissions Notice for the Civil Services Examination, 1992 which inter-alia includes eligibility conditions, scheme and syllabi for the examination is enclosed for your reference.
