RBI Releases Handbook of Statistics on Indian States 2019 20
October, 13th 2020

Today, the Reserve Bank of India released the fifth edition of its statistical publication titled “Handbook of Statistics on Indian States 2019-20”. Through this publication, the Reserve Bank has been disseminating wide-ranging data on the regional economy of India.

This publication follows the ‘one indicator-one table’ approach in 153 tables. It covers sub-national statistics on socio-demographics, state domestic product, agriculture, industry, infrastructure, banking and fiscal indicators across Indian states over a time period ranging from 1951 to 2019-20.

To make the Handbook more user friendly in terms of its portability, presentation and coverage of new items, the following changes have been introduced in the current edition of the Handbook:

(a) The time period coverage of tables has been reduced (starting from 1990-91 in the previous volume to starting from 2004-05 in the present volume), since old time series are available online on the RBI website; and

(b) In addition to the updation of the existing data series, 13 new tables have been included on the following indicators:

(i) State-wise CPI (Source: National Statistical Office, GoI), which include table on (Base 2012=100):

  • Average Inflation-General (2014-15 to 2019-20);

  • Average Inflation-Food and Beverages (2014-15 to 2019-20);

  • Average Inflation-Fuel and Light (2014-15 to 2019-20); and

  • Average Inflation-Housing (2014-15 to 2019-20).

(ii) State-wise rural wages in India from 2014-15 (Source: The Labour Bureau, GoI):

  • Average Daily Wage Rates (General Agricultural Labourers);

  • Average Daily Wage Rates (Construction Workers);

  • Average Daily Wage Rates (Horticulture Workers); and

  • Average Daily Wage Rates (Non-Agricultural Labourers).

(iii) Annual production of Fish (2004-05 to 2018-19);

(iv) Annual production of Egg (2004-05 to 2018-19);

(v) Annual production of Wool (2004-05 to 2018-19);

(vi) Annual rainfall by Meteorological Divisions; and

(vii) Sanctions and disbursements under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund.

The electronic form of the Handbook can also be accessed on www.rbi.org.in
