Chartered Accountants of India Doha Chapter elects new managing committee

At the recent Annual General Meeting of the Doha Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) the new managing committee was elected for the year 2008-2009.

CA Kurian Kuriakose was chosen as the Chairman for the year 2008-09. Kuriakose is the Managing Partner for Morison Menon Chartered Accountants Qatar, a QFC licensed audit and consultancy firm in Qatar. The other members of the new Executive Committee were CA Javed Siddiqui (Qtel) as Vice Chairman, CA Srikaran Venkataramanan (Doha Bank) as Secretary, CA Utkarsh Patel (RasGas) as Treasurer. The following were chosen as Committee members; CA Rengarajan Srinivasan (QDC), CA Aravind Krishnaswamy (HSBC), CA Ravi Bansal (RasGas), CA Hatim Hussain(Blue Salon) and CA Kotesh Katta (SASCO).

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is the second largest Accounting body in the world with over 140,000 members. This institute has been established as an autonomous body under an Act of the Indian Parliament and regulates the Accountancy profession in India. The institute has facilitated establishment of similar regulatory institutions in other countries including some of the GCC countries.

The Chapter in Doha was established in the year 1981 and is the oldest among the 15 overseas chapters of the ICAI. It is affiliated to the Indian Embassy in Qatar. The current membership of the Chapter is over 180 members who hold key positions in private and public sector establishments in Qatar and are actively involved in support and development of accounting profession in Qatar. The Chapter is actively involved in enhancing and updating the professional knowledge of its members and towards this end, organizes several professional lectures and seminars for its members.

The AGM was opened by CA Javed Siddiqui and remembered the sad loss of one of its members CA K A Baby. Thereafter the outgoing Chairman CA Sanjay Jain presented the achievements and accounts for the year 2007-2008. After the adoption of accounts, the new committee was elected and the new chairman CA Kurian Kuriakose took over the podium communicating the plan for the coming year. The AGM events were sponsored by Qatar National Bank (QNB) NRI Services.
