Today is the last day to file your income tax returns

This year, the government has already extended the deadline twice. First, it was moved from July 31 to August 31, giving tax payers ample time to file their returns. On August 31, the deadline was shifted to September 7.

In case you still haven't filled your tax returns, and are not looking forward to getting a notice from the income tax department, then you should rush. Today, September 7 is the last day to file income tax returns for all those who come under the tax bracket -- i.e. all those who earn more than 10 lakh per annum or own assets abroad.

This year, the government has already extended the deadline twice. First, it was moved from July 31 to August 31, giving tax payers ample time to file their returns. On August 31, the deadline was shifted to September 7.

August 31 had seen a massive rush of last minute tax filers, which lead to the website crashing.

Initially, the deadline was shifted to September 7 only for Gujarat after rioting in the state due to reservation claims by the Hardik-Patel led community prompted the government to curb internet services over the mobile and dongles, and SMS services for a week.
