The Department of Sales Tax today said that a total of 1,40,000 VAT dealers are yet to file their e-returns. The Department further said that it has already started taking legal action against these 1,40,000 VAT dealers for not filing e-returns, a press release issued here said. Filing of e-returns has been made mandatory for all VAT dealers from October 1, 2008 and all dealers have to file their returns electronically only.
For filing e-returns, one has to get enrolled and out of 5,67,000 VAT dealers, 5,32,000 dealers are e-enrolled, the release said. 35,000 dealers are yet to enroll. The Department has appealed to the VAT dealers to upload their e-returns as early as possible and pay tax to avoid legal action, the release said.
