Two held for locking up sales tax officials
October, 09th 2014

Tension prevailed at Alamcode near Attingal on Wednesday after police arrested two people, one a member of the Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi, for allegedly locking up four sales tax (intelligence) officials on duty inside a shop. The arrested have been identified as Sulaiman, a trader, and Mubarak, both hailing from Alamcode.

Police said that the incident took place around 3pm on Wednesday.

The sales tax officials were inspecting a car accessories showroom, My Car Accessories, at Alamcode when Sulaiman and Mubarak along with few others turned up and locked them inside by pulling down the shutter.

The officials informed the police through mobile phone, following which the duo was arrested.

They were charged with relevant sections for obstructing the duty of government officials.

Following their arrest, the traders observed a local hartal at Alamcode by closing down all shops. They also laid siege to the police station. However, they dispersed after the police let the duo out on bail.
