Indore Municipal Corporation detects huge property tax evasion by Jash Engineering
September, 19th 2014

Continuing the drive to check under assessment of property tax, the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Thursday unearthed huge irregularities in assessment of property at a factory of Jash Engineering located on Sanwer Road.

Earlier, the civic body had carried out similar drive against malls, hotels, hospitals and commercial units and now, industrial units of Indore are under the scanner.

During the inspection, the civic officials found huge difference between property tax paid by the company and the size of property at Jash Engineering. "The company was paying property tax for just 26669 square feet area of constructed area, but during inspection, we found construction over 46336 square feet. The company was paying almost half of its property tax," said IMC secretary Abhay Rajangaokar.

He said that till now, the property tax was calculated and collected on the basis of self details of property submitted by the owner. The civic body didn't verify the details submitted by property owner which increased the possibility of manipulation. "So we are now carrying survey and inspection of the properties," said Rajangaokar adding that they would continue the survey of big properties of the city.
