CBDT issues dos & don``ts for its officials
August, 04th 2011

New Delhi, (PTI) "Do remember that corruption starts in a small way. It would thus be wise to nip the evil on the bud," the Income Tax Department said today while issuing Dos and Don''ts for its employees.
"Do not live beyond your means; it may be tempting but dangerous," the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) ''Dos and Don''ts'' manual for its employees said.

The manual comes in the wake of CBDT waging a war against corruption and blackmoney. The CBDT has asked its employees to adopt highest level of integrity and honesty in their public and private lives.
"Every employee should avoid monetary transactions either directly or through members of his family, which places him under pecuniary obligation to any person with whom he has or is likely to have official dealings," the manual said.
Releasing the manuals, the CBDT said that its goals is to prevent mistakes committed out of ignorance and, thus save the employees from agony of punitive vigilance.

It said that ignorance or lack of clarity about the rules makes an employee apprehensive and indecisive.
The Board has asked the employees not to take any obligation "in any form from any one, (as) it may boomerang".
It asked employees not to use their influence for securing any advantage for themselves or their knowns.
"Do not yield to temptations, or run after petty gains; it does not pay ultimately," the manual said.
It also asked the employees not to "acquire or dispose off any immovable property... either in (their) own name or in the name of any member of family, except with the previous knowledge of the prescribed authority".
"Do remember that corruption starts in a small way. It would thus be wise to nip the evil on the bud," it said. PTI JD NKD SKB
