The Puducherry VAT (Amendment) Bill, 2012 was presented by the Chief Minister N Rangasamy in the UT assembly to ratify the enhancement already made by government order.
Rangasamy said the decision followed the consensus reached among the states for increasing the lower rate of VAT from 4 to 5 per cent for third schedule goods in the meeting of the state finance ministers. Also,the Value Added Tax rate has been fixed at 12.5 per cent to 14.5 per cent for the fourth schedule goods.
