To pay tax with rebate
July, 29th 2009

Last two days for the July-30 deadline to pay property tax for 2009-10 with 5% rebate. With no green signal from the government yet, the BBMP is yet to confirm the one-month extension in the rebate period.

The only hope: the assembly session on Wednesday. Once approved, it will have to be sent to the state election commission for consent.

The BBMP administrator wrote to the government on July 25 seeking one-month extension in 5% rebate to pay tax for this block period following public requests.

Citizens had cited increased expenses during June-July, with school and college fees along with filing of income-tax returns.

The tax counters that opened on July 1 for the new block period has received more than Rs 90 crore from almost 1 lakh properties till this weekend. Over 15,000 people have paid tax online. However, revenue officials say collection during the last two days has significantly reduced.
