Complaints can be filed with the Ombudsman if deficiency is found in the services offered by the Income Tax department. The petitioner should, before making a complaint to the Ombudsman, make a written representation to the Income Tax Authority superior to the one complained against. If such authority rejects the complaint or the complainant does not receive any reply within a period of one month from such authority, then a complaint may be filed with the Ombudsman, according to a release.
