The Young Leaders' Organisation (YLO), alongwith Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) promoted Young Indians (YI), will host 'The Young Leaders World Summit - India Edition'.
The summit will be held at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) between June 6 and June 9, 2008. The summit will aim at training students in global issues by conducting sessions similar to United Nations' General Assembly, Economic and Social Council, and Security Council during the four-day event at IIM-A. Students from various disciplines like engineering, business, technology and architecture will be participating at the summit.
While the organizers received over 1,000 applications, the organisation has shortlisted around 400 students for the event, of which close to 40 students will be representing campuses from Gujarat including Mudra Institute of Communication, Ahmedabad (MICA), National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Gandhinagar, and IIMA.
The other campuses participating in the event include IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IILM, St Stephens Mumbai, ICAI and ICFAI.
"Students are being taken through rigorous training sessions to prepare them in the protocol of the UN. As many as 21 global issues like disarmament, world prices, and inflation will be debated upon. The sessions will also comprise resolutions that will be later sent as a report to the UN," said Rahul Mirchandani, national vice-chairman - Young Indians.
Young Indians ("Yi") was founded in December 2002. It is an integral part of CII and comprises of a group of young Indian achievers and professionals below the age of 40 years from various walks of life. Presently, Yi has 14 Chapters across the country with a membership of approximately 700. In addition, another around 2000 students are engaged with 30 Yi Nets all over India.
