Tax revenue mop-up to cross Rs 5.8 cr by FY10
June, 18th 2007

Higher collection of corporate and service taxes will spur the growth of total tax revenue, which will grow to over Rs 5.8 crore by 2009-10 and Rs 10.7 crore by 2014-15 from Rs 4.6 crore in 2006-07, industry body Assocham said on Sunday. Growth in total tax collections would increase mainly on account of higher collections of corporate and service taxes and partly due to increase in income tax, customs and excise duty, the chamber said in its Eco Pulse study on Tax Revenue: The Future Growth Path.

Corporate, income-tax, excise and custom duties volumes have increased tremendously between 1992-93 to 2006-07, indicating that simplification in tax administration and increased economic activities have motivated payers to avoid tax evasion, the study said. In 2006-07, total collection was to the tune of Rs 38,169 crore.
