Apr-May direct tax collections up

The Centre's net direct tax collections grew 71.42 per cent in April-May 2007 to Rs 13,335 crore compared to Rs 7,779 crore in the corresponding previous period.

While net corporate tax collection stood at Rs 4,835 crore (Rs 466 crore due to large refunds), net personal income tax stood at Rs 8,493 crore (Rs 7,308 crore).

Securities Transaction Tax (STT) collections stood at Rs 841 crore (Rs 817 crore), while Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) collections stood at Rs 117 crore (Rs 105 crore). Banking cash transaction tax (BCTT) brought in Rs 96 crore (Rs 78 crore).
