May, 01st 2015

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will offer 5 per cent rebate on property tax till May 31.

The earlier deadline to pay property tax was April 30.

According to a press release, the number of people paying property tax online had seen a huge increase. While 1.56 lakh people paid their property tax online last year, this year, 2.17 lakh people paid their taxes online. To manage the extra traffic, the BBMP has increased the Internet bandwidth twice of the existing capacity.

That apart, the amount of tax collected has also seen a significant increase. This year, 6.2 lakh property owners had paid tax amounting to Rs. 631 crore. Last year, Rs. 406 crore was collected as property tax.
