Chartered accountants exams to be made more transparent: Jaydeep Shah
May, 24th 2012

While addressing a gathering during the inauguration of the new building of the Nashik branch of Western India Regional Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), its president Jaydeep Shah said that the exam system for chartered accountants would be made more transparent.

"Our aim is to produce competent chartered accountants (CAs). As part of this larger goal, we have already taken some measures to reduce the stress students face when appearing for CA exams, and bring in transparency to the exam system," Shah said.

"Last year, we decided to give 15 minutes of extra time to read a question paper for students appearing for the examination. Besides, we have also decided to give photocopies of exam answer sheets to the students, on demand, once the results are out," he added.

Subodh Agarwal, vice-president, ICAI, said, "Depreciation of the rupee as compared to the dollar has become the cause of concern for CAs, as 90% of their clients have vested interest in the position of the dollar. Most clients are are engaged in export businesses and their CAs have the responsibility of advising them accordingly."

S S Mutha, added that the the insitute's new building had been a pet project for a long time. "Our long-awaited project has been completed today. We are planning to begin classes for the Common Proficiency Test (CPT), shortly. We are also launching our material distribution centre at the new building from today so students from Nashik do not need to go to Mumbai, Pune or other cities to collect their study material."

"We are also planning to provide training to the prisoners who have completed their sentence. so that they secure jobs," Mutha said.
