Regarding seizure of Red Sanders Wood weighing 8688.90 kgs. valued at Rs. 63.32 lakhs by DRI Kolkata

SEIZURE OF 8688.90 KGS.OF RED SANDERS WOOD HAVING TOTAL SEIZURE VALUE OF RS. 63.32 LAKHS

Acting on specific intelligence, the officers of DRI, Kolkata from Guwahati had effected a seizure of Red Sanders Wood weighing 8688.90 kgs. valued at Rs. 63.32 lakhs from a truck near Assam oil petrol pump at Changsari, Assam on 26.04.2010.The logs of 8688.90 kgs. of red sanders wood, recovered from the truck were kept concealed under 30 nos. of paper cartons and 32 nos of wooden boxes containing damaged and rotten apples. The Red Sanders Wood and the carrier truck were seized under Customs Act, 1962 on reasonable belief that the said goods were meant for illicit export to Myanmar through unauthorized route. The driver and the helper of the truck were arrested.
