Professional-tax payers list add 6000
May, 27th 2009

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) is planning to improve its tally of professional taxpayers in the city. In a renewed effort the VMC officials are planning to tag about 6,000 professional-tax payers by attaching their unpaid tax bills along with the property taxes and other taxes, which are served regularly.

Officials said there are about 64,000 professional-tax payers and they are planning to take the figure up to 70,000 during the current fiscal year.

Apart from following its standard practice of giving a list of professional tax payers, the VMC is planning to put a small note along with the tax bills from the next fiscal year.

Assistant Municipal Commissioner (Revenue) R M Patel told Newsline: We already have the list of existing professional-tax payers, which include people who have Enrolment Certificate and Registration Certificate. We are planning to identify 6,000 additional tax payers apart from the existing ones. As against the target of Rs 17 crore which we had set for the financial year 2008-9, we have set the target of Rs 25 crore for the current year.
