150 investors rally against Income - Tax dept
May, 14th 2009

Harried investors of Pramod Agrawals Mahadeo Developers Private Limited and Kalamna Market Urban Credit Cooperative Society gathered in front of the income tax office at Saraf Chambers, Sadar, on Tuesday. They were protesting against the income tax department for taking action against both the entities. The investors alleged that it was the income tax raid which threw a spanner in his activities, stopping payments he was making to his investors.

Over 100 investors had gathered at the income tax office and wanted to question the officials about the assets owned by Agrawal. A couple of them were allowed to interact with a senior official, who told them that Agrawal had not cooperated with the tax sleuths, so they were unable to provide any hint about the assets he or his firms own. The investors later went to the local crime branch office, asking the cops if they would be able to recover the money. They were told that the police will only investigate the matter, and cannot give an assurance about the money.

A few days ago, Agrawal had urged his investors to demonstrate before the income tax office as they had seized all the land-related documents and cash. Meanwhile, the number of complainants against Agrawal has risen to 314 at crime branch.
