Nagpur Branch of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India felicitated R K Tiwari, Chairman of Central Board of Direct Taxes, at National Academy of Direct Taxes recently on his maiden visit to Nagpur after assuming the charge. Delegation was led by CA Swapnil Agrawal Imm. Past Chairman and CA Julfesh Shah, RCM and Vice Chairman WIRC.

CA. Swapnil Agrawal, Imm Past Chairman of the Branch briefed about the activities of the branch. He informed that Nagpur branch which is catering to around 2000 members and more than 12000 students at Nagpur. It has been awarded as the best branch at All India level on several occasions. He said that the Branch organizes various events for updating its members and society at large. It also organizes number of programs jointly with the Income Tax Department, like seminar on TDS awareness, Appeals and Revision, etc., for creating awareness amongst the public. He elucidated various events organized by the Nagpur branch for the benefit of members and students. He also requested CBDT Chairman to address the members of Nagpur ICAI on his next visit to Nagpur.

Regional Council Member and Vice Chairman WIRC CA Julfesh Shah said that professionals , Trade & Industry are facing problems regarding notices received under section 234E of the Income Tax Act, regarding Interest and Penalty provisions in TDS. He said that hardship is created even to the genuine cases. He requested CBDT Chairman to make certain relaxations under the act so as to benefit the small and medium assessees.

R K Tiwari reacting to the felicitation said he is very happy with the activities conducted by Nagpur Branch of ICAI. He lauded the efforts of ICAI for acting as a trustworthy link between revenue and assessea. He informed the members present about various measures being taken by the Central Board of Direct Taxes to create assessee friendly atmosphere. He assured to take up the matter related to section 234E and said that he will try to bring certain provisions in upcoming Budget which will help the genuine assessees.
