March, 07th 2011

Saturday saw CAs updating their knowledge on income tax and  service tax at ICAI Bhawan. The Ludhiana branch of Northern India Regional Council (NIRC) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) organized a seminar on Budget 2011- Income tax and service tax, at ICAI Bhawan.

In this seminar, scholar and Chartered Accountant (CA) Dr Girish Ahuja and CA Ashok Batra, both from New Delhi, delivered lecture on service tax.

Branch chairman CA Pankaj Periwal, a resident of Civil Lines on DMC Road, shared perspective on initiatives to be taken by Ludhiana branch for the institute members and CA students.

CA Ashok Batra gave a talk on the topic of recent amendments in service tax. He said the revenue-wise service tax has been regularly increasing since its introduction in 1994. After 1998, the provisions for prosecution have been re-introduced, so strict compliance with service tax laws has become more important.
