Tax Tribunal Bill cleared |
|
March, 20th 2007 |
A Bill providing that no member of the National Tax Tribunal shall be transferred by the Centre without the chairmans concurrence was approved by the Lok Sabha today. The National Tax Tribunal (Amendment) Bill to amend the relevant Act passed in 2005 seeks to bring about changes to reduce the qualifying period of a member of the Income-Tax Appellate Tribunal and of the Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal for appointment as member of the National Tax Tribunal, from seven years to five years. Another section has been amended to provide that a party may either appear in person or authorise chartered accountant or legal practitioner to appear before the tribunal, Law Minister H R Bhardwaj said.
