Corporation budget on March 15

Chennai Corporations annual budget for 2010-11 would be tabled on March 15 and discussion on it by councillors will be held after two days, Mayor Subramanian has informed.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating a Rs 15 lakh purified drinking water tank for visitors at Marina Beach here on Monday, the Mayor said, main focus  would be given to education and health sectors in the budget.

Four more places have been chosen at the Marina for setting up such purified drinking water tanks. Two tanks would be constructed and maintained by the Lions Club. Four more toilets at the Marina Beach would be constructed and opened  for public use soon, he added.

The water purifier was built by the Lions Club of Chennai and has a capacity to purify 12,000 litres daily. The club has appointed a person for the maintenance of the plant.

Earlier in the day, the Mayor made a surprise visit to Anna Park (Robinson Park), Royapuram from where the civic body received several complaints of poor maintenance.

Speaking to reporters at the park after taking stock of the situation, Subramanian said, The Robinson Park, which has a long history in the formation of DMK party, would be renovated with several new amenities and efforts would be made to make it as a model park in the locality.

Bowing to the users demand, the Mayor also announced immediate suspension of entry fee of Re one collected from every visitor to gain entry into the park.Besides setting up lush green meadows, new public convenience would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 5 lakh, he added.
