Tax revenues of VAT states post near 25% growth
February, 20th 2007
The overall tax revenues of the VAT implementing states have recorded a near 25 per cent growth in April-January 2007.

In April-December 2006, the revenues grew by 24.42 per cent to Rs 83,425 crore from Rs 67,050 crore in the corresponding period.

Official sources said that a rebound in Maharashtra's tax revenues, which account for about 20 per cent of overall tax revenues of all states, in January 2007, has helped scale up the overall performance.

The state's tax revenues have bounced back last month to record a 30 per cent increase over the January 2006 performance. "This is clear indication that the December performance was only a blip," the sources said.

The revenues declined by nearly 20 per cent in December 2006 to Rs 1,458 crore (Rs 1,805 crore). In April-December 2006, they rose 23.48 per cent to Rs 16,525 crore (Rs 13,383 crore).
