Rajkot central excise to get ISO-9001 stamp
February, 21st 2007

The Rajkot central excise office is all set to receive an ISO-9001 certificate in a few days. The Rajkot office will be the first among Central and state offices in Saurashtra to get this certificate.

Sources in the Rajkot excise office revealed that the office has obtained the evaluation report from Germany and the certificate will be issued within the next fortnight.

Corporate offices, educational institutes and other entities are increasingly opting for ISO certification to create a brand image. However, this is the first instance in Saurashtra wherein a government office has managed to receive such certification. The Rajkot office covers six districts of Saurashtra and Kutch region and the office has set the target of mopping up Rs 400 crore as central excise this fiscal.

The Central government had instructed all its offices to work like corporate offices, based on the recommendations made by the Kelkar Committee.

As part of its strategy to implement the recommendations, the office changed its manner of functioning according to ISO standards.
