SRK's Bollywood's top taxpayer

Shah Rukh Khan leads Bollywood in paying tax too. He has paid Rs 27 crore as advance tax for the current financial year (2007-2008) till December end. This is for the first three quarters of the current financial year.

Khan was also the highest taxpayer among actors during the last financial year (April 2006-March 2007) when he paid Rs 18 crore.

Top Tax Payers in Bollywood
Top individual advance income taxpayers in Bollywood of 2007-2008 till December 31:

  • Shah Rukh Khan-27 Rs crore:  Tax officials said his earnings from recent releases Om Shanti Om and Chak De India were major contributors to the tax kitty, besides his income from advertising. Tax paid this year till now is far higher than what he had paid in the whole of last financial year (2006-2007), when he had paid Rs 18 crore.
  • Akshay Kumar- Rs 7 crore: His growing popularity in film and ad worlds and hits like Bhool Bhulaiya is good news for taxmen. In the last financial year, he had paid Rs 6.6 crore in tax.
  • Abhishek Bachchan- Rs 3.7 crore:  Not many releases this year is one of the reasons for him paying less tax than others. Last year was a little slow too. He had paid Rs 2.6 crore in tax.
  • Aamir Khan-Rs 3 crore: Tax officials believe his earnings from Taare Zameen Par would add a big amount to the tax kitty in the fourth quarter. In the last financial year he had paid Rs 6 crore in tax.
  • Himesh Reshammiya-Rs 2.5 crore: Tax guys expect the amount to go up with the singer signing a number of contracts and trying his acting talents. In the last financial year he had paid Rs 4.5 crore.
