TN: Meet on VAT on Dec 19

The Rotary Club of Madras Chenna Patna (RI Dist 3230) is organising a seminar on Tamil Nadu Value Added Tax (VAT) in Chennai on December 19. According to a press release from the club, the seminar is to prepare those in business and trade, who will be affected by the new tax regime. The State Government has passed a law, Tamil Nadu Value Added Tax Act, 2006, to implement VAT with effect from January 1, 2007.

Those addressing the seminar will include Mr G. Shanmugam, Joint Commissioner (Commercial Taxes), in charge of VAT implementation; Mr P. Purushotham, Joint General Manager (Indirect Taxes), L&T Ltd; Mr K. Guruswamy, Senior Deputy GM (Taxation), TAFE Ltd; and Mr P. Rajendra Kumar, Chartered Accountant.
