Last day to pay property tax with old notes

The property tax department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has earned nearly Rs 34 crore in property tax and arrears in the last 12 days. All the payments received were in the demonetized currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000. A total of 9,508 residents paid the taxes.

The old currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination were demonetized on November 8. However, the state government has allowed payment of municipal taxes and arrears using the demonetized notes till

The 16 divisional offices of the PCMC's property tax department will remain open till midnight on Thursday to accept cash payments. Tax will also be accepted through cheques and online system.

Dilip Gawde, joint commissioner and head of property tax department, said, "Five persons cleared property tax and arrears in the range of Rs 10-21 lakh. A total of 10 property holders cleared taxes and arrears in the range of Rs 5-10 lakh, while a total of 374 people cleared property tax and dues in the range of Rs 1-5 lakh."
