Those who have not paid their property tax for the past few years will soon face the wrath of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). At a quarterly tax recovery review meeting, the AMC found a large deficit as unpaid taxes.
With nearly 60,940 properties added to the AMC's property list last year and with 25,098 properties having applied for name change, the AMC decided to recover tax amounts that have not been paid. Krushvadan Brahmbhatt, chairman of revenue committee, said the civic body will first issue notices to those who are yet to pay up and then immediately follow it with sealing of premises. "For many years now, owners of some of the properties in the city have not bothered to pay their yearly tax bills," said Brahmbhatt.
There are 16 lakh properties in the city within AMC limits of which about four lakh are commercial property units and 12 lakh residential properties.
The maximum number of new properties came up in the south zone with 22,124 properties, followed by the east zone which had 16,419 new additions. The west zone recorded 9,435 new additional property units. The assessment for the North zone and the New West Zone is yet to be completed. The maximum number of ownership changes has taken place in the south zone.
