Excise Dept meet on e-payment |
|
November, 27th 2007 |
In a bid to sensitise assessees towards the legal obligation with regard to e-payment of both central excise and Service Tax (mandatory from April 1, 2007 and October 1, 2006 respectively), the Central Excise Department (Kolkata) has organised a workshop, under the direction of the Chief Commissioner of Central Excise, Kolkata.
E-payment, for both service tax and central excise, is mandatory for all assessees who have paid Rs 50 lakh or more as duty in cash in 2006-07. The workshop, besides educating the assessees, has also provided a platform for the assessees to interact with the banks. He said the problems faced are mostly with regard to the banks.
