Govt to cut paperwork for exporters' tax refund... » I-T officials search 30 chemical units in Maharashtra, Gujarat October, 11th 2007 Income Tax officials today searched premises of 30 chemical industrial units in Maharashtra and Gujarat for possible tax evasion. "After gathering specific evidence regarding Income Tax evasion, we sent our officials to conduct search at premises of 30 chemical industrial units located in Maharashtra and Gujarat," Income Tax sources said. The search was conducted in units located between Mumbai and Thane in Maharashtra and Vapi, Ankaleshwar and Baroda in Gujarat. "Our entire operation was focused mainly between Thane and Ahmedabad as bulk of country's chemical units are located in this region," the sources said. Over 100 personnel have been deployed in the operation that are yet to return from the field. "We don't have the exact number of people deployed but it should be anywhere between 120-150. Since, they are yet to return from the field, we cannot reveal the details of their findings today. It will take some time," the sources added.
