I-T may soon get 10,000 more posts
October, 03rd 2006
The manpower woes of the income tax department may soon be over. The departments proposal for creation of additional 10,000 posts has received the go ahead from the Cabinet secretariat. It is now likely to go to the Cabinet for its approval soon. Out of these 90% has been allocated for field formations. Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) had worked out its projection for manpower requirement till 10 on the governments instruction. The requirement of 10,000 was worked out by the department then. These posts are in addition to the 3,300 approved by the Cabinet earlier. For these posts, the department has sent a proposal to the Staff Selection Commission. Though the department had asked for a sanction of 6,600 posts, the Cabinet agreed to only half the number. The department had also explored the possibility of roping in the Banking Services Recruitment Board (BSRB) for hiring process. The proposal has not found much favour with the department as BSRB would have taken the same time as SSC.
