CBDT issues orders for setting up national e-assessment centre
September, 24th 2019

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), responsible for framing the policy for the Income-tax Department, issued the orders for setting up a national e-assessment centre (NeAC).

The centre which will have 16 officials is a part of the government’s ambitious plan to launch faceless and nameless assessment for income tax payers from October. Also, the centre will be headed by a Principal Chief Commissioner of Income-tax (PCCIT), who will be the chief of the centre.

The NeAC will be an independent office, for which 1984-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer KM Prasad has been appointed as the chief or PCCIT of the new Centre while 1993-batch IRS officer Ashish Abrol has been appointed as the Commissioner or second-in-command of the new unit, said a senior official. The centre will look after the exclusive work of e-assessment that will be brought into effect from October 8.
