Customs sleuths on Saturday night arrested a 35-year-old resident of Kozhikode who had reportedly escaped from the Mangaluru International Airport on Friday after being caught for being in illegal possession of cannabis.
Mohammed Haneef was apprehended by the security personnel on Friday evening after he was found with 4.5 kg of cannabis in his bag.
After seizing the cannabis and his passport, the security personnel asked Haneef to stand by the side while they checked the baggage of other passengers.
As the checking was on, Haneef reportedly managed to escape.
A special team of Customs sleuths tracked down Haneef and arrested him near the Mangaluru Central Railway Station on Saturday night. An official from the Customs said that Haneef was produced before a local magistrate who remanded him in judicial custody.
