The key benchmark indices were trading higher in the early deals today. The Sensex was up 102 points at 16,118 and the Nifty gained 27 points to trade at 4,810. This was the first time that the Nifty moved above 4,800 levels since June 2, 2008.
Buying interest was seen in realty, metal and capital goods stocks. The BSE realty index rose 1 per cent and the capital goods index gained 0.8 per cent. The metal index on the BSE was also up 1 per cent.
In the Sensex pack, Sterlite Ind was the biggest gainer. The stock rose 2.6 per cent. TCS, Hindalco and DLF were up over 1.4 per cent each.
Asian markets were trading higher today. South Koreas Kopsi rose 0.5 per cent and Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 0.6 per cent. Japans Nikkei gained 0.2 per cent.
