A raid was conducted by the officials of Central Board of Excise & Customs (CBEC) and service tax department at a glass firm located on Eighty feet road here on Tuesday. The glass firm is engaged in providing services to builders and big realtors besides its routine business.
Departmental sources informed that the firm was found to be involved in tax evasion. A senior official of Central Excise department, said that the glass firm was not paying any service tax to the government. On preliminary investigations, it was gathered that the party had so far evaded service tax to the tune of Rs 2 crore.
The source added that senior officials at the headquarters have been apprised and the department is still in the process of ascertaining the exact amount of service tax liability. Further action will be taken only after assertion of the details. The department is in the process of collecting information about other firms across the Industrial town, which have not paid service tax, he added.
