Bhattal said these decisions of the government proved that they had no other means for revenue generation than to tax the common man. "We would hold massive protest marches, launch jail bharo andolans or even gherao cabinet ministers for such autocratic attitude of the government," she said.
Bhattal said the government should have discussed these issues in the assembly session and not taken them while sitting in their air-conditioned rooms. "Punjab government should call an emergency session of the assembly to discuss the reasons behind levying of new taxes," she suggested.
Commenting on the present financial state of Punjab, Bhattal remarked that this was the worst phase, as the government did not have a single penny and it would be better for the government to declare the state bankrupt.
"From where will the common man pay new taxes, as increasing inflation has already made it difficult for him to make both ends meet? The situation is worst ever in 50 years, as every class, right from private entrepreneurs to government employees, is feeling the heat of government's decisions," she said.
