The central excise inspectors today held a demonstration in front of the office of the Central Excise Commissionerate here on Wednesday. The call was given by All-India Central Excise Inspectors Association to press for acceptance of their long-pending demands.
Gurwinder Singh, Secretary, Ludhiana branch, said that their all-India body had served a notice upon the Chairman, Central Board of Excise and Customs, New Delhi, regarding their demands and agitation programme. Todays dharna was held in the context of the country-wide lunch-hour demonstration, which started on July 15, and will continue till August 15 every Wednesday. Gurwinder Singh further said that in case their demands were not met, the agitation would be intensified and they would go on an indefinite strike .
The superintendents of Chandigarh zone, on the call given by their zonal president, A.K. Sharma have extended their support to the inspectors and also participated in the demonstration today.
