The government collected Rs636.23bn as customs, excise and service tax during the April-July period as compared to Rs883.95bn collected by it last year The world economic downturn has brought the Government's indirect tax collections in the first four months of this fiscal down by 28% as compared to the same period of last financial year.
The Government collected Rs636.23bn as customs, excise and service tax during the April-July 2009-10 period as compared to Rs883.95bn collected by it in the year-ago period.
Among the indirect taxes, customs duties saw a major decline of about 36% to Rs243.24bn from Rs382.51bn in the first four months of the last fiscal year.
