Conference on Indirect Taxes to Begin on Friday
July, 31st 2014

The two-day national conference on Indirect Taxes, organised by the Indirect Taxes Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, will be held at the TDM Hall here on August 1 and 2. The conference will be inaugurated by former Finance Minister Thomas Issac, who will also be the chief guest at the inaugural meeting.

The conference will discuss topics related to service tax, including ‘How to Assess Taxability - Exemption Notification and Negative List; Works Contract; Burning issues in Point of Taxation Rules; Construction Service; Reverse Charge Mechanism; CENVAT Credit; How to Reduce Litigation; and Provisions Related to Arrest and Prosecution’. On the occasion, Atul Kumar Gupta from New Delhi, K Vaitheeswaran from Chennai and V Raghuraman from Bengaluru will led sessions on service tax.

On the second day, the sessions will be led by Bimal Jain of New Delhi and Dinesh Kumar Agarwal of Mumbai. Conference coordinator M O Around 1,500 delegates from across South India will attend the conference. The services sector contributes nearly 60 percent to India’s GDP.
