In accordance with Finance (No 2) Bill, 2009, introduced by the Finance Minister, some new services have been proposed to be brought under the levy of service tax.

In a press release, N Sridhar, Additional Commissioner, Tirupati Commissionerate of Central Excise, Customs and Service Tax, said that the proposed services to be brought under the levy of service tax include - Transport of Goods through rail including government rail (in containers or otherwise), transport of coastal goods and goods transported through inland water, legal consultancy service and cosmetic plastic surgery service.

Four services have been proposed for modification and they include - business auxiliary services, information technology services, works contract services and stock brokers services.

He said the relevant clauses of the Finance Bill and notifications in this regard may be seen on the website - www.cbec.gov.in. The date from which changes would come into effect would be notified in the gazette in the due course of time.
