FM says no discrepancies in Budget
July, 24th 2009

Home Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday clarified that there were no discrepancies in the Budget documents regarding some figures related to Home Ministry, as claimed by BJP leader Sushma Swaraj in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Swaraj had singled out three instances where the allocations in the Expenditure Budget and Demands for Grants for Home Ministry did not match.

In a detailed statement, Chidambaram pointed out that certain allocations had been included under different heads on page numbers other than those mentioned by Swaraj. If all the figures are taken together, the figures in the Demands for Grants and the Expenditure budget come out to be exactly equal, as they should be.

The verbal exchange between Swaraj and Chidambaram had hogged the limelight in Wednesdays debate on the Home Ministrys demands for grants in Lok Sabha.
