The businesses based in Gujarat will soon be able to file their tax returns online under the new Automation of Central Excise and Service Tax (ACES).
The service had already being introduced in many parts of the country.
The Director General (Systems) of the Central Board of Excise and Customs, Y G Parande, introduced the system at the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), Ahmedabad, on Thursday.
The board, with its counterparts in the state, will deliberate further on the system. It will be ready in another four weeks, said Additional Commissioner, Central Excise (Ahmedabad).
The officers training will commence this month, and the system will be operative about two weeks after that, he said.
Under ACES, the centralized, online tax collection system, a person who assesses tax for a business as well as an individual merchant can register on the Boards website, obtain a User ID and file tax return.
